May You Live in Interesting Times

This a list of the Internet sites that I visit for either business or pleasure. The primary area that I want to extend is a list of places where we have been on vacation, but unfortunately for you most of them are not on the web and so will hopefully remain a secret. Some, like a malt whisky tour, remain a dream.

If I had to nominate a single site, it would have to be The Dilbert Zone where a myriad of cartoons and Dilbert related artifacts can be found.

A recent find is Beer Mania, which provides access to 400 Belgian beers and their website permits orders for delivery to the UK.

My home page provides a potted history of my bridge year. Helen was 1998 British Scrabble Champion, so her pages are better if you are interested in that game.

Cricket

Cricket is another of my interests and the only site you need to know is Cricinfo, from where you can get live ball-by-ball action on the English performances in the World Cup. The Lord's site also provides excellent coverage of all cricket, including the County games and the BBC site is often the best for performance when busy.

My county has always been Essex since I went to school in Chelmsford, at a time when Graham Gooch was breaking into the side and batting at number 10; when I was very young I seem to remember supporting Kent, at a time when Bob Woolmer was a bowler and batting at number 10. I guess only cricket lovers will understand why this may be interesting.

Tennis can be found at www.wimbledon.org, and I've found their java scoreboard to be particularly useful during the Wimbledon fortnight.

San Francisco and the USA

I've had many business trips to San Francisco and have started to pick up on the important places to visit. The Faultline Brewing Company in Sunnyvale produces acceptable not-too-cold beer. Although it's not as good as that brewed by some of my colleages in the Mountain View office, it has the advantageous of being available to more readers. For easy listening, Smooth Jazz on KKSF is my recommendation, especially their Sunday brunches - check the website for location. Finally, for all events and activities in SF, sidewalk.com is the place to look.

Also US-visits mean the opportunity to go and see some NFL action, the San Diego Chargers were hosts on one trip.

Books and Culture

Terry Pratchett is one of my favourite authors and I have most of his Discworld books in hardback - Discworld Fan Club Site (for the Terry Pratchett fans).

Stephen King is another bookshelf filler with our favourite being the Dark Tower series.

If you ever need to buy a book, I can certainly recommend amazon.co.uk as you can buy on the web and delivery is excellent. For music, a well advertised place is cdnow.

Culturally it is hard to beat the Henley Festival, which is held in the week after the Regatta in July.

The whole family is keen on Wallace & Gromit. There are a number of sites containing information about them and a good place to start is here.

The Internet Movie Database and the The Internet Underground Music Archive provide excellent reference material, as well as being pretty interesting.

Penguins

These are some of the links that I've found on the web:

A lot of penguins can be seen in Antarctica:

Horticulture

Helen is a keen gardener and we are both members of the RHS. Their garden at Wisley is a favourite place to visit throughout the year. Other horticultural sites include:

The Rest

Some of my friends have some bizarre interests, so I maintain links to the Independent Tottenham Supporters and The Reading F.C. Internet Fanzine sites. Also Eddie Stobart and the world of big lorries is popular for some reason.

Technical Stuff

Of course, the web, HTML etc continues to make the news and these are some of the pages I have used in the past:
